It has been a truly horrific and emotional time for our tight knit community and sadly the danger isn’t over just yet.
I would like to thank those that have reached out and messaged us, we are safe in Kingscote, unfortunately some of our Island wasn’t.
So many people want to know how they can help… our local council has set up a mayor fund to raise money to be given directly to the families affected by the fire so they purchase immediately what they need. If you would like to donate to the Kangaroo Island Council’s KI Mayoral Relief and Recovery Bushfire Fund visit https://www.kangarooisland.sa.gov.au/community/kangaroo-island-bushfires-2020
Secondly we still need the tourist to come to Kangaroo Island. Not necessarily right now as the fire is still active, and we need a minute to collect our thoughts, but in the months to come we will need the support of the tourist to help our battered economy. If you have a booking with an accommodation provider in an unaffected area in the next few months, please delay in cancelling your reservation. Your safety is our priority and we will contact you if it is not safe to travel. There is still so many wonderful places to visit and many businesses ready to welcome you.
Alternatively you can purchase our kangaroo island products either online or in the shops such as eggs, honey, eucalyptus oil, gin…. the list goes on.
